Mission
Statement
Doctor Lifeline works to expose and correct the conditions engendering the high rate of physician and health care worker suicides.

Reports of 400 U.S. physician suicides per year probably underestimate the actual occurrence rate. These tragic deaths deprive about 1 million patients of their doctors each year. Physicians die from suicide at a rate twice that of the general population.

The culture of medicine discourages doctors and other health care workers from seeking help for burnout or depression. Other toxic factors include bewilderingly hostile workplace environments, loss of societal stature, excessive documentation and regulatory demands, litigation stress, inflexible poorly designed electronic health records, insurance company preemption of clinical decisions, and a prevailing perception of increasing powerlessness.

Progress

We are an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated in the State of Florida making your donations tax-deductable. We create educational videos and offer speakers for interested groups. We provide counselling for health care professionals dealing with suicidal ideation. The Florida Medical Association recently passed a resolution committing resources to support efforts central to our mission. We form alliances and collaborate with other suicide prevention organizations and professional societies.
Physician Support Line

"Physicians are smart, tough, durable, resourceful people. If there was a way to MacGyver themselves out of this situation by working harder, smarter, or differently, they would have done it already." -- Simon G. Talbot MD and Wendy Dean MD

"If the epidemic of physician suicide continues unabated, it will be because those of us who can see the underlying causes are not resourceful enough to overcome the forces of inertia, ignorance, and greed." -- Steven Reid MD
Robyn Symon created the riviting film "Do No Harm" which pulls back the curtain on the topic of physician suicide. Your purchase of this film through the link below supports Doctor Lifeline's mission.
